Ratspeak: messages, offline inbox, rooms
By the end of this page Ratspeak is connected to the IranTalk node, your messages arrive even when the recipient is offline, and you have joined the IranTalk chat rooms.
Tier 2: open internet · Needs internet.
Ratspeak is a messaging app for Reticulum, on Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. The addresses this page needs are on Ways to connect. Copy them from there and never from anywhere else.
1. Connect to the node
- Install and open Ratspeak. Create an identity and give it a name that is not your real name.
- Go to Settings, then Network, and add a TCP connection.
- Enter the host and port from the "Reticulum (TCP)" row on Ways to connect, and switch the connection on.
2. Offline Inbox
The Offline Inbox is the LXMF propagation node: a message for someone who is not online right now waits there, and they collect it when they connect.
- In the Offline Inbox section, set the mode to Manual.
- Paste the "LXMF propagation node" address from Ways to connect.
3. First message
- Announce yourself, so others can see you.
- Add a contact from their announce, or paste their LXMF address.
- Send a message. If the recipient is offline, it waits in the Offline Inbox and arrives later.
4. Chat rooms
- In Channels, tap "Manage Hub", then "Join a hub".
- Choose the IranTalk hub from the list, or enter the "Chat hub (RRC)" address from Ways to connect.
- Rooms are joined by name: with the + button, type
irantalkorhelp. Everyone who types the same name is in the same room. - Type
/listin any room to see the registered rooms.
The room's server sees room messages. Do not write in a room what must not be seen; send a direct message for that, which is end-to-end encrypted.
Leave "Channel hosting" in Settings switched off. Switching it on makes your device a hub itself, and others talk through it.
