MeshChat: Reticulum in the browser

By the end of this page MeshChat on your computer is connected to the IranTalk node, the Offline Inbox is set, and you read our node's pages from the same app.

Tier 2: open internet · Needs internet.

Draft: this page has not been checked on a real device yet, and its Farsi has not been reviewed. Use with care.

MeshChat is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that puts Reticulum in a simple visual interface: messages, announces, a map of nodes and a browser for NomadNet pages, all in one window. The addresses come from Ways to connect and from nowhere else.

1. Install

  1. Get the installer from the offline pack or from the official release, and compare its hash with the signed file list (check).
  2. The first start creates an identity. In Settings, give it a display name that is not your real name.

2. Connect to the node

  1. Open Interfaces and add a new interface.
  2. Type: TCP Client. Any name, and the host and port from the "Reticulum (TCP)" row on Ways to connect.
  3. Save and, if the app asks, restart Reticulum. On the main screen the interface should show as connected.

3. Offline Inbox

  1. In Settings, under the LXMF propagation node, paste the "LXMF propagation node" row from Ways to connect.
  2. Leave syncing automatic, or sync by hand each time. Messages that arrived while you were away come from here.

4. First message

  1. Announce.
  2. In Peers, choose the other person or paste their LXMF address.
  3. Write and send. The delivery mark shows whether the message arrived or is waiting.

5. Our node's pages

In the app's Nomad Network section, open the "NomadNet node" row from Ways to connect: the front page, this same address list, and the news. The signed files of the list are there too. The full guide to those pages: NomadNet.

The IranTalk chat rooms (RRC) are not available in MeshChat; use Ratspeak or a recent NomadNet for those.
